'Oh let me look once again and seeA
Starlight the heavens o'ersweeping 'B
Begged young Magnus on bended kneeA
It was sore to seeA
All the women afar were weepingC
-
'Oh till to morrow The mountains to seeA
And ocean its blue displayingC
Only once and then let it be '-
Thus he bent the kneeA
While his friends for mercy were prayingC
-
'Oh in the church let God's blood so brightD
Be the last blessing that greets meA
It shall bathe with a flood of lightD
Through eternal nightD
My eyes when the darkness meets me '-
-
Deep sank the steel and each seeing eyeE
Lightning like night had swallowedF
'Magnus King Magnus good by good by '-
'Oh good by good byE
You who eighteen summers me followed '-
