Ingerid Sletten Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBC BDEB FAAF FAAF FAAF GAAG

Ingerid Sletten of SillejordA
Neither gold nor silver did ownB
But a little hood of gay wool aloneB
Her mother had given of yoreC
-
A little hood of gay wool aloneB
With no braid nor lining was hereD
But parent love made it ever dearE
And brighter than gold it shoneB
-
She kept the hood twenty years just soF
Be it spotless softly she criedA
Until I shall wear it once as brideA
When I to the altar goF
-
She kept the hood thirty years just soF
Be it spotless softly she criedA
Then wear it I will a gladsome brideA
When it to our Lord I showF
-
She kept the hood forty years just soF
With her mother ever in mindA
Little hood be with me to this resignedA
That ne'er to the altar we'll goF
-
She steps to the chest where the hood has lainG
And seeks it with swelling heartA
She guides her hand to its place apartA
But never a thread did remainG
