Ever he would roamA
Toward th' eternal homeA
From the least life deep in oceanB
To each gleam of stars in motionB
Worth of all he weighedC
Now the Lord lends aidC
-
Still he passed beyondD
Softly dreaming fondD
Nature met him as her loverE
God with strength his soul shall coverE
'Mid the starry throngF
Through the spheres' pure songF
-
Even here on earthG
Harmony's sweet birthG
When discovery new truth sundersH
When the small reveals its wondersH
Filled his soul with songF
For the ages longF
-
Where his watch he keptI
Eyes a hundred sweptI
Where millenniums sand assembledJ
Where the tiniest life pulse trembledJ
There he sought the clueK
Silent wise and trueK
-
In a water glassH
Searching he saw passH
All the ocean's life his thinkingL
To unfathomed deeps was sinkingL
Where lay riddles lockedM
There he came and knockedM
-
Fair our fatherlandN
While such faith shall standN
With an eye so true and tenderE
With a sense so fine for splendorE
In the small and stillO
Great ends we fulfilO
