It could be the name of a prehistoric beastA
that roamed the Paleozoic earth rising upB
on its hind legs to show off its large vocabularyC
or some lover in a myth who is metamorphosed into a bookD
-
It means treasury but it is just a placeE
where words congregate with their relativesF
a big park where hundreds of family reunionsG
are always being heldH
house home abode dwelling lodgings and digsI
all sharing the same picnic basket and thermosJ
hairy hirsute woolly furry fleecy and shaggyC
all running a sack race or throwing horseshoesK
inert static motionless fixed and immobileL
standing and kneeling in rows for a group photographM
-
Here father is next to sire and brother closeN
to sibling separated only by fine shades of meaningO
And every group has its odd cousin the oneP
who traveled the farthest to be hereQ
astereognosis polydipsia or some elevenP
syllable unpronounceable substitute for the word toolR
Even their own relatives have to squint at their name tagsS
-

I rarely open it because I know there is noU
such thing as a synonym and because I get nervousJ
around people who always assemble with their own kindV
forming clubs and nailing signs to closed front doorsW
while others huddle alone in the dark streetsX
-
I would rather see words out on their own awayY
from their families and the warehouse of RogetY
wandering the world where they sometimes fallZ
in love with a completely different wordA2
Surely you have seen pairs of them standing foreverB2
next to each other on the same line inside a poemC2
a small chapel where weddings like theseD2
between perfect strangers can take placeE
