The Only Day In Existence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLM GNGOPGAQAARSL

The early sun is so pale and shadowyA
I could be looking up at a ghostB
in the shape of a windowC
a tall rectangular spiritD
looking down at me in bedE
about to demand that I avengeF
the murder of my fatherG
But the morning light is only the first lineH
in the play of this dayI
the only day in existenceJ
the opening chord of its long songK
or think of what is permeatingL
the thin bedroom curtainsM
-
as the beginning of a lectureG
I will listen to until it is darkN
a curious student in a V neck sweaterG
angled into the wooden chair of his lifeO
ready with notebook and a chewed up pencilP
quiet as a goldfish in winterG
serious as a compass at seaA
eager to absorb whatever lessonQ
this damp overcast TuesdayA
has to teach meA
here in the spacious classroom of the worldR
with its long walls of glassS
its heavy low hung ceilingL
