On Turning Ten Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIIJEKLMN ODFPQMR STUV WDXYZ

The whole idea of it makes me feelA
like I'm coming down with somethingB
something worse than any stomach acheC
or the headaches I get from reading in bad lightD
a kind of measles of the spiritE
a mumps of the psycheF
a disfiguring chicken pox of the soulG
-
You tell me it is too early to be looking backH
but that is because you have forgottenI
the perfect simplicity of being oneI
and the beautiful complexity introduced by twoJ
But I can lie on my bed and remember every digitE
At four I was an Arabian wizardK
I could make myself invisibleL
by drinking a glass of milk a certain wayM
At seven I was a soldier at nine a princeN
-
But now I am mostly at the windowO
watching the late afternoon lightD
Back then it never fell so solemnlyF
against the side of my tree houseP
and my bicycle never leaned against the garageQ
as it does todayM
all the dark blue speed drained out of itR
-
This is the beginning of sadness I say to myselfS
as I walk through the universe in my sneakersT
It is time to say good bye to my imaginary friendsU
time to turn the first big numberV
-
It seems only yesterday I used to believeW
there was nothing under my skin but lightD
If you cut me I could shineX
But now when I fall upon the sidewalks of lifeY
I skin my knees I bleedZ
