Japan Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC ADE FAG FHI FAF HJK LM ANL OPQ CLR SLB TUV

Today I pass the time readingA
a favorite haikuB
saying the few words over and overC
-
It feels like eatingA
the same small perfect grapeD
again and againE
-
I walk through the house reciting itF
and leave its letters fallingA
through the air of every roomG
-
I stand by the big silence of the piano and say itF
I say it in front of a painting of the seaH
I tap out its rhythm on an empty shelfI
-
I listen to myself saying itF
then I say it without listeningA
then I hear it without saying itF
-
And when the dog looks up at meH
I kneel down on the floorJ
and whisper it into each of his long white earsK
-
It's the one about the one ton temple bellL
with the moth sleeping on its surfaceM
-
and every time I say it I feel the excruciatingA
pressure of the mothN
on the surface of the iron bellL
-
When I say it at the windowO
the bell is the worldP
and I am the moth resting thereQ
-
When I say it at the mirrorC
I am the heavy bellL
and the moth is life with its papery wingsR
-
And later when I say it to you in the darkS
you are the bellL
and I am the tongue of the bell ringing youB
-
and the moth has flownT
from its lineU
and moves like a hinge in the air above our bedV
