I Ask You Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCADEF GHIJKL CMNOP QRBSTUVW WBXYZA2B2C2D2What scene would I want to be enveloped in | A |
more than this one | B |
an ordinary night at the kitchen table | C |
floral wallpaper pressing in | A |
white cabinets full of glass | D |
the telephone silent | E |
a pen tilted back in my hand | F |
- | |
It gives me time to think | G |
about all that is going on outside | H |
leaves gathering in corners | I |
lichen greening the high grey rocks | J |
while over the dunes the world sails on | K |
huge ocean going history bubbling in its wake | L |
- | |
But beyond this table | C |
there is nothing that I need | M |
not even a job that would allow me to row to work | N |
or a coffee colored Aston Martin DB | O |
with cracked green leather seats | P |
- | |
No it's all here | Q |
the clear ovals of a glass of water | R |
a small crate of oranges a book on Stalin | B |
not to mention the odd snarling fish | S |
in a frame on the wall | T |
and the way these three candles | U |
each a different height | V |
are singing in perfect harmony | W |
- | |
So forgive me | W |
if I lower my head now and listen | B |
to the short bass candle as he takes a solo | X |
while my heart | Y |
thrums under my shirt | Z |
frog at the edge of a pond | A2 |
and my thoughts fly off to a province | B2 |
made of one enormous sky | C2 |
and about a million empty branches | D2 |
