(end) Of Summer (1966) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IJKL MND OP QRS

I'm tired of murdering childrenA
Once long ago today they wanted to liveB
now I feel Vietnam the placeC
where rigor mortis is beginning to set in upon meD
-
I force silence down the throats of mutesE
down the throats of mating cries of animals who know they are extinctF
The chameleon's death soliloquy is your voice's pulseG
your scorched forehead a constellation's suicide noteH
-
A phonograph needle plunges through long black hairI
and stone drips slowly into our veinsJ
The earth has been squandered by the meekK
And upsidedown in the earth a dead man walks upon my soles when I walkL
-
A baby is cryingM
In the swaddling pagesN
a babyD
-
'Don't cry No Solomori's sword canO
divide you from the skyP
You are one Fly '-
-
I'm tired so tiredQ
I have sleep to doR
I have work to dreamS
