HARK Young Democracy from sleepA
Our careless sentries rapsB
A backwash from the Future s deepA
Our Evil s foreland lapsB
-
Unknown these Titans of our NightC
Their New Creation makeD
Unseen they toil and love and fightC
That glamoured Man may wakeD
-
Knights errant of the human raceE
The Quixotes of to dayF
For man as man they claim a placeE
Prepare the tedious wayF
-
They seek no dim eyed mob s applauseG
Deem base the titled nameH
And spurn for glory of their CauseI
The tawdry nymphs of FameH
-
No masks of ignorance or sinJ
Hide from them you or meK
We re Man no colour shames our skinJ
No race or caste have weK
-
The prognathous NeanderthalL
To them conceals the BruceM
They see Dan Aesop in the thrallL
From swagmen Christ deduceM
-
Tho butt for lecher s ribaldryK
And scarred by woman s scornN
In baby burdened girl they seeK
God motherhood forlornN
-
With them to racial siredom glidesO
The savage we depraveP
That eunuch brilliant Narses hidesO
A Spartacus that slaveP
-
They Jesus find in manger waifQ
In horse boys ShakespearehoodF
And earthquake Luthers nestling safeQ
In German miner s broodF
-
The God that pulses everywhereR
They know fills Satan s veinsS
No felon but they see Him thereR
Behind His mirror s stainsS
-
Tis theirs Earth s charnel rooms to clearT
And ruthless sweep awayF
The Lares and Penates dearT
To man in his decayF
-
Their restless energy suppliesU
Munitions that will wreckV
The keeps whence feudal enemiesW
Our free banditti checkV
-
Their unrelenting wars they wageX
These Furies of the RightF
Where myriad Falsehood s legions rageX
Artilleried by MightF
-
Where Fashion s stupid iron clampsY
Young Innovation s headF
And Law the stalwart Present crampsY
In Past s Procrustes bedF
-
Where Pride of learning substance bloodF
Or prowess in the strifeZ
Exacts from teeming lowlihoodF
The lion s share of lifeZ
-
Where Gluttony would to the brutesY
Degrade his loose lipped gangsY
Where Tyranny his venom shootsY
From one or million fangsY
-
Where Cruelty in Wisdom s maskA2
Piths fame from writhing beastsY
Where blest is racial Murder s taskA2
By Christ s apostate priestsY
-
In Punic or in Persian frayF
With Love s and Conscience foesY
Unadvertising Romans theyF
And Spartans free from poseY
-
Abused as mad or traitors byB2
The trolls they would ejectF
Cold shouldered by wan ApathyK
Of motives mean suspectF
-
Outcast from social gaietiesY
Denied life s lilied graceY
They mount their hidden CalvariesY
To save the human raceY
-
The bowers of Art a few may knowC2
A few wait highly placedF
Most bear the hods of common woeC2
And some you call disgracedF
-
But whether in the mob or schoolD2
In church or povertyK
They teach and live the Golden RuleD2
Of Young DemocracyK
-
That culture joy and goodlinessK
Be th equal right of allL
That Greed no more shall those oppressK
Who by the wayside fallL
-
That each shall share what all men sowK
That colour caste s a lieB2
That man is God however lowC2
Is man however highB2
