CAN we not consecrateA
To man and God aboveB
This volume of our greatA
Supernal tide of loveB
-
Twere wrong its wealth to wasteC
On merely me and youD
In selfish touch and tasteC
As other lovers doD
-
This love is not as theirsE
It came from the DivineF
Whose glory still it wearsE
And print of Whose designF
-
The world is full of woeG
The time is blurred with dustH
Illusions breed and growG
And eyes and flesh s lustH
-
The mighty league with WrongI
And stint the weakling s breadJ
The very lords of songI
With Luxury have wedJ
-
Fair Art deserts the massK
And loiters with the gayL
And only gods of brassK
Are popular to dayL
-
Two souls with love inspiredM
Such lightning love as oursN
Could spread if we desiredM
Dismay among such powersN
-
Could social stables purgeO
Of filth where festers strifeP
Through modern baseness surgeO
A holier tide of lifeP
-
Yea two so steeped in loveB
From such a source could drawQ
The angels from aboveB
To lead all to their LawQ
-
We have no right to seekR
Repose in rosy bowerS
When Hunger thins the cheekR
Of childhood every hourS
-
Nor while the tiger SinT
Mid youths and maidens roamsU
Should Duty skulk withinT
These selfish cosy homesU
-
Our place is in the vanV
With those crusaders whoD
Maintain the rights of manV
Gainst despot and his crewD
-
If sacrifice may moveW
Their load of pain from menX
The greatest right of LoveB
Is to renounce It thenX
-
Ah Love the earth is woe sY
And sadly helpers needsZ
And till its burden goesA2
Our work is where it bleedsZ
