On My First Son Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE CDFF

Farewell thou child of my right hand and joyA
My sin was too much hope of thee loved boyA
Seven years thou wert lent to me and I thee payB
Exacted by thy fate on the just dayB
-
Oh could I lose all father now For whyC
Will man lament the state he should envyD
To have so soon 'scaped world's and flesh's rageE
And if no other misery yet ageE
-
Rest in soft peace and asked say Here doth lieC
Ben Jonson his best piece of poetryD
For whose sake henceforth all his vows be suchF
As what he loves may never like too muchF
