I thought to form unto my zealous MuseB
What kind of creature I could most desireA
To honour serve and love as poets useC
I meant to make her fair and free and wiseD
Of greatest blood and yet more good than greatE
I meant the day star should not brighter riseD
Nor lend like influence from his lucent seatF
I meant she should be courteous facile sweetF
Hating that solemn vice of greatness prideG
I meant each softest virtue there should meetF
Fit in that softer bosom to resideG
Only a learn d and a manly soulH
I purposed her that should with even powersI
The rock the spindle and the shears controlH
Of Destiny and spin her own free hoursI
Such when I meant to feign and wished to seeJ
My Muse bade Bedford write and that was sheJ
