A Celebration Of Charis: I. His Excuse For Loving Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFFGGHHIIHHJJ KKLL

Let it not your wonder moveA
Less your laughter that I loveB
Though I now write fifty yearsC
I have had and have my peersC
Poets though divine are menD
Some have lov'd as old againD
And it is not always faceE
Clothes or fortune gives the graceE
Or the feature or the youthF
But the language and the truthF
With the ardour and the passionG
Gives the lover weight and fashionG
If you then will read the storyH
First prepare you to be sorryH
That you never knew till nowI
Either whom to love or howI
But be glad as soon with meH
When you know that this is sheH
Of whose beauty it was sungJ
She shall make the old man youngJ
Keep the middle age at stayK
And let nothing high decayK
Till she be the reason whyL
All the world for love may dieL
