PEACE what do tears availB
She lies all dumb and paleB
And from her eyeC
The spirit of lovely life is fadingD
And she must dieC
Why looks the lover wroth the friend upbraidingD
Reply replyC
-
Hath she not dwelt too longD
Midst pain and grief and wrongD
Then why not dieC
Why suffer again her doom of sorrowE
And hopeless lieC
Why nurse the trembling dream until to morrowE
Reply replyC
-
Death Take her to thine armsF
In all her stainless charmsF
And with her flyC
To heavenly haunts where clad in brightnessG
The Angels lieC
Wilt bear her there O Death in all her whitenessG
Reply replyC
