What Have The Cavalry Done? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDAEEAAFFFGHHII JJKKALLAAMMNNFGAA

What have the cavalry doneA
Cantered and trotted aboutB
Routin' the enemy outB
Causin' the beggars to runA
And we tramped along in the blazin' heatC
Over the veldt on our weary feetC
Tramp tramp trampD
Under the blazin' sunA
With never the sight of a bloomin' BoerE
'Cause they'd hunted 'em long beforeE
That's what the cavalry doneA
What have the gunners doneA
Battlin' every dayF
Battlin' any wayF
Boers outranged 'em but what cared theyF
Shoot and be damned said the R H AG
See when the fight grows hotH
Under the rifles or notH
Always the order runsI
Fetch up the bloomin' gunsI
-
And you'd see them great gun horses springJ
To the action front and around they'd swingJ
Find the range with some queer machineK
At four thousand with fuse fourteenK
Ready Fire number oneA
Handled the battery neat and quickL
Stick to it too How did they stickL
Never a gunner was seen to runA
Never a gunner would leave his gunA
Not though his mates dropped all aroundM
Always a gunner would stand his groundM
Take the army the infantryN
Mounted rifles and cavalryN
Twice the numbers I'd give awayF
And I'd fight the lot with the R H AG
For they showed us how a corps should be runA
That's what the gunners doneA
