Under The Shadow Of Kiley's Hill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EBEFB GHDGH IBIIB JKJJK LBLLB

This is the place where they all were bredA
Some of the rafters are standing stillB
Now they are scattered and lost and deadA
Every one from the old nest fledA
Out of the shadow of Kiley's HillB
-
Better it is that they ne'er came backC
Changes and chances are quickly rungD
Now the old homestead is gone to rackC
Green is the grass on the well worn trackC
Down by the gate where the roses clungD
-
Gone is the garden they kept with careE
Left to decay at its own sweet willB
Fruit trees and flower beds eaten bareE
Cattle and sheep where the roses wereF
Under the shadow of Kiley's HillB
-
Where are the children that strove and grewG
In the old homestead in days gone byH
One is away on the far BarcooD
Watching his cattle the long year throughG
Watching them starve in the droughts and dieH
-
One in the town where all cares are rifeI
Weary with troubles that cramp and killB
Fain would be done with the restless strifeI
Fain would go back to the old bush lifeI
Back to the shadow of Kiley's HillB
-
One is away on the roving questJ
Seeking his share of the golden spoilK
Out in the wastes of the trackless westJ
Wandering ever he gives the bestJ
Of his years and strength to the hopeless toilK
-
What of the parents That unkempt moundL
Shows where they slumber united stillB
Rough is their grave but they sleep as soundL
Out on the range as in holy groundL
Under the shadow of Kiley's HillB
