How doth my heart with anguish thrill	A
For he our chief our Robin Hood	B
Has gone to jail for stealing wood	B
With tears and sobs my voice I raise	C
To celebrate my uncle's praise	C
With all my strength with all my skill	A
I'll sing the song of Uncle Bill	A
Convivial to the last degree	D
An open hearted sportsman he	D
Did midnight howls our slumbers rob	E
We said It's uncle 'on the job'	E
When sounds of fight rang sharply out	F
Then Bill was bound to be about	F
The foremost figure in the scrap	G
A terror to the local trap	G
To drink or fight or maim or kill	A
Came all alike to Uncle Bill	A
And when he faced the music's squeak	H
At Central Court before the beak	H
How carefully we sought our fob	E
To pay his fine of forty bob	E
Recall the happy days of yore	I
When Uncle Bill went forth to war	I
When all the street with strife was filled	J
And both the traps got nearly killed	J
When the lone cabman on the stand	K
was stoushed by Bill's unaided hand	K
And William mounted filled with rum	L
And drove the cab to kingdom come	L
Remember too that famous fray	M
When the Black reds who hold their sway	M
O'er Surry Hills and Shepherd's Bush	N
Descended on the Liver Push	N
Who cheered both parties long and loud	O
Who heaved blue metal at the crowd	O
And sooled his bulldog Fighting Bet	P
To bite haphazard all she met	P
And when the mob were lodged in gaol	A
Who telegraphed to me for bail	A
And here I think he showed his sense	Q
Who calmly turned Queen's evidence	R

Enough I now must end my song	S
My needless anguish why prolong	S
From what I've said you'll own I'm sure	T
That Uncle Bill was pretty pure	T
So rowdies all your glasses fill	A
And drink it standing Uncle Bill	A
