My Uncle Bill My Uncle BillA
How doth my heart with anguish thrillA
For he our chief our Robin HoodB
Has gone to jail for stealing woodB
With tears and sobs my voice I raiseC
To celebrate my uncle's praiseC
With all my strength with all my skillA
I'll sing the song of Uncle BillA
Convivial to the last degreeD
An open hearted sportsman heD
Did midnight howls our slumbers robE
We said It's uncle 'on the job'E
When sounds of fight rang sharply outF
Then Bill was bound to be aboutF
The foremost figure in the scrapG
A terror to the local trapG
To drink or fight or maim or killA
Came all alike to Uncle BillA
And when he faced the music's squeakH
At Central Court before the beakH
How carefully we sought our fobE
To pay his fine of forty bobE
Recall the happy days of yoreI
When Uncle Bill went forth to warI
When all the street with strife was filledJ
And both the traps got nearly killedJ
When the lone cabman on the standK
was stoushed by Bill's unaided handK
And William mounted filled with rumL
And drove the cab to kingdom comeL
Remember too that famous frayM
When the Black reds who hold their swayM
O'er Surry Hills and Shepherd's BushN
Descended on the Liver PushN
Who cheered both parties long and loudO
Who heaved blue metal at the crowdO
And sooled his bulldog Fighting BetP
To bite haphazard all she metP
And when the mob were lodged in gaolA
Who telegraphed to me for bailA
And here I think he showed his senseQ
Who calmly turned Queen's evidenceR
-
Enough I now must end my songS
My needless anguish why prolongS
From what I've said you'll own I'm sureT
That Uncle Bill was pretty pureT
So rowdies all your glasses fillA
And drink it standing Uncle BillA
