Pro Bono PublicoA
Went out the streets to scanB
And marching to and froC
He met a seedy manB
Who did a tale unfoldD
In solemn tones and slowC
And this is what he toldD
Pro Bono PublicoA
-
For many years I ledE
The people's onward marchF
I was the 'Fountain Head'E
The 'Democratic Arch'F
-
In more than regal stateE
I used to sit and smileG
And bridges I'd donateE
And railways by the mileG
-
I pawned the country offH
For many million quidE
And spent it like a toffH
So hel me Bob I didE
-
But now those times are goneI
The wind blows cold and keenJ
I sit and think uponK
The thing that I have beenL
-
And if a country townM
Its obligation shirksN
I press for money downM
To pay for water worksN
-
A million pounds or twoO
Was naught at all to meP
And now I have to sueO
For paltry s dP
-
Alas that such a fateE
Should come to such a manB
Who once was called the GreatE
The great O'SullivanQ
-
With weary steps and slowC
With tears of sympathyP
Pro Bono PublicoA
Went sadly home to teaP
-
Remarking as he wentE
With sad and mournful browR
The cash that party spentE
I wish I had it nowR
