The shades of night had fallen at lastA
When through the house a shadow passedA
That once had been the Genial DanB
But now become a desperate manB
At question time he waited nearC
And on the Premier's startled earD
A voice fell like half a brickE
Did ye or did ye not pay CrickE
Did yeF
By land and sea the Premier spedG
But found his foe where'er he fledG
The sailors swore with whitened lipH
That Neptune swam behind the shipH
When to the stern the Premier ranB
Behold 'twas no one else but DanB
And through the roaring of the galeI
That clarion voice took up the taleI
Ahot there Answer straight and slickE
Did not the Ministry pay CrickE
Did theyJ
-
In railway trains he sought retreatK
But soon from underneath the seatK
With blazing eye and bristling beardL
His ancient enemy appearedL
And like a boiling torrent ranB
The accents of the angry DanB
Tell me John See and tell me quickE
Did not ye pay your shares to CrickE
Did yeF
