Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDAAEECD FFGGCD EEBBCD HHIICD

To Policeman G the Inspector saidA
When you pass the 'shops' you must turn your headA
If you took a wager that would be a sinB
So you'll earn no stripes if you run them inB
Mush a ring tiy ahC
Fol de diddle dohD
To the House Committee the Inspector saidA
'Tis a terrible thing how the gamblers spreadA
For they bet on the steeple and they bet on the CupE
And the magistrates won't lock them upE
Mush a ring tiy ahC
Fol de diddle dohD
-
But Policeman G as he walks his beatF
Where ghe gamblers are up and down the streetF
Says he What's the use to be talkin' rotG
If they'd make me a sergeant I could cop the lotG
With my ring tiy ahC
Fol de diddle dohD
-
But begad if you start to suppress the 'shop'E
Then the divil only knows where you're going to stopE
For the rich and the poor they would raise a dinB
If at Randwick I ran fifty thousand inB
Mush a ring tiy ahC
Fol de diddle dohD
-
Though ye must not box nor shpit nor betH
I'll find my way out to Randwick yetH
For I'm shtandin' a pound and it's no disgraceI
On Paddy Nolan's horse for the SteeplechaseI
Mush a ring tiy ahC
Fol de diddle dohD
