Over The Range Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDEFEFFDBD GHGHIDID JKJKLDLD

Little bush maiden wondering eyedA
Playing alone in the creek bed dryB
In the small green flat on every sideA
Walled in by the Moonbi ranges highB
Tell me the tale of your lonely lifeC
'Mid the great grey forests that know no changeD
I never have left my home she saidE
I have never been over the Moonbi RangeD
Father and mother are long since deadE
And I live with granny in yon wee placeF
Where are your father and mother I saidE
She puzzled awhile with thoughtful faceF
Then a light came into the shy brown faceF
And she smiled for she thought the question strangeD
On a thing so certain When people dieB
They go to the country over the rangeD
-
And what is this country like my lassG
There are blossoming trees and pretty flowersH
And shining creeks where the golden grassG
Is fresh and sweet from the summer showersH
They never need work nor want nor weepI
No troubles can come their hearts to estrangeD
Some summer night I shall fall asleepI
And wake in the country over the rangeD
-
Child you are wise in your simple trustJ
For the wisest man knows no more than youK
Ashes to ashes and dust to dustJ
Our views by a range are bounded tooK
But we know that God hath this gift in storeL
That when we come to the final changeD
We shall meet with our loved ones gone beforeL
To the beautiful country over the rangeD
