Old Man Platypus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EBEEB FBFFB GHGGH

Far from the trouble and toil of townA
Where the reed beds sweep and shiverB
Look at a fragment of velvet brownA
Old Man Platypus drifting downA
Drifting along the riverB
-
And he plays and dives in the river bendsC
In a style that is most elusiveD
With few relations and fewer friendsC
For Old Man Platypus descendsC
From a family most exclusiveD
-
He shares his burrow beneath the bankE
With his wife and his son and daughterB
At the roots of the reeds and the grasses rankE
And the bubbles show where our hero sankE
To its entrance under waterB
-
Safe in their burrow below the fallsF
They live in a world of wonderB
Where no one visits and no one callsF
They sleep like little brown billiard ballsF
With their beaks tucked neatly underB
-
And he talks in a deep unfriendly growlG
As he goes on his journey lonelyH
For he's no relation to fish nor fowlG
Nor to bird nor beast nor to horned owlG
In fact he's the one and onlyH
