Jock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDDDEEDFD GHGHIDID JJKKJLMJ

There's a soldier that's been doing of his shareA
In the fighting up and down and round aboutB
He's continually marching here and thereA
And he's fighting morning in and morning outB
The Boer you see he generally runsC
But sometimes when he hides behind a rockD
And we can't make no impression with the gunsC
Oh then you'll hear the order Send for JockD
Yes it's Jock Scotch JockD
He's the fellow that can give or take a knockD
For he's hairy and he's hardE
And his feet are by the yardE
And his face is like the face what's on a clockD
But when the bullets fly you will mostly hear the cryF
Send for JockD
-
The Cavalry have gun and sword and lanceG
Before they choose their weapon why they're deadH
The Mounted Foot are hampered in advanceG
By holding of their helmets on their headH
And when the Boer has dug himself a trenchI
And placed his Maxim gun behind a rockD
These mounted heroes pets of Johnny FrenchI
They have to sit and wait and send for JockD
-
Yes the Jocks Scotch JocksJ
With their music that'd terrify an oxJ
When the bullets kick the sandK
You can hear the sharp commandK
Forty Second At the double Charge the rocksJ
And the charge is like a hoodL
When they warmed the Highland bloodM
Of the JocksJ
