You come and see me boys he saidA
You'll find a welcome and a bedA
And whisky any time you callB
Although our township hasn't gotC
The name of quite a lively spotC
You see I live in BooligalB
And people have an awful downD
Upon the district and the townD
Which worse than hell itself the callB
In fact the saying far and wideE
Along the Riverina sideE
Is 'Hay and Hell and Booligal'B
-
No doubt it suits 'em very wellB
To say its worse than Hay or HellB
But don't you heed their talk at allB
Of course there's heat no one deniesF
And sand and dust and stacks of fliesF
And rabbits too at BooligalB
-
But such a pleasant quiet placeG
You never see a stranger's faceG
They hardly ever care to callB
The drovers mostly pass it byH
They reckon that they'd rather dieH
Than spend the night in BooligalB
-
The big mosquitoes frighten someI
You'll lie awake to hear 'em humI
And snakes about the township crawlB
But shearers when they get their chequeJ
They never come along and wreckJ
The blessed town of BooligalB
-
But down to Hay the shearers comeI
And fill themselves with fighting rumI
And chase blue devils up the wallB
And fight the snaggers every dayK
Until there is the deuce to payK
There's none of that in BooligalB
-
Of course there isn't much to seeL
The billiard table used to beL
The great attraction for us allB
Until some careless drunken cursL
Got sleeping on it in their spursL
And ruined it in BooligalB
-
Just now there is a howling droughtM
That pretty near has starved us outM
It never seems to rain at allB
But if there should come any rainN
You couldn't cross the black soil plainN
You'd have to stop in BooligalB
-
-
-
We'd have to stop With bated breathO
We prayed that both in life and deathO
Our fate in other lines might fallB
Oh send us to our just rewardP
In Hay or Hell but gracious LordP
Deliver us from BooligalB
