Gone Down Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFBDBD GHGHIDID

To the voters of Glen Innes 'twas O'Sullivan that wentA
To secure the country vote for Mister HayB
So he told 'em what he'd borrowed and he told 'em what he'd spentA
Though extravagance had blown it all awayB
Said he Vote for Hay my hearties and wherever we may roamC
We will borrow undismayed by Fortune's frownD
When he got his little banjo and he sang them Home Sweet HomeC
Why it made a blessed horse fall downD
Then he summoned his supporters and went spouting through the bushE
To assure them that he'd build them roads galoreF
If he could but borrow something from the Plutocratic PushE
Though he knew they wouldn't lend him any moreF
With his Coolangatta Croesus who was posing for the dayB
As a Friend of Labour just brought up from townD
When the Democratic Keystone told the workers Vote for HayB
Then another blessed horse fell downD
-
When the polling day was over and the promising was doneG
The promises that never would be keptH
Then O'Sullivan came homeward at the sinking of the sunG
To the Ministerial Bench he slowly creptH
When his colleagues said Who won it Is our banner waving highI
Has the Ministry retained Glen Innes TownD
Then the great man hesitated and responded with a sighI
There's another blessed seat gone downD
