Flying Squirrels Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DEFFE GHIIH HJKKJ HLHHL

On the rugged water shedA
At the top of the bridle trackB
Where years ago as the old men sayC
The splitters went with a bullock drayC
But never a dray came backB
-
At the time of the gum tree bloomD
When the scent in the air is strongE
And the blossom stirs in the evening breezeF
You may see the squirrels among the treesF
Playing the whole night longE
-
Never a care at allG
Bothers their simple brainsH
You can see them glide in the moonlight dimI
From tree to tree and from limb to limbI
Little grey aeroplanesH
-
Each like a dormouse sleepsH
In the spout of a gum tree oldJ
A ball of fur with a silver coatK
Each with his tail around his throatK
For fear of his catching coldJ
-
These are the things he eatsH
Asking his friends to dineL
Moths and beetles and newborn shootsH
Honey and snacks of the native fruitsH
And a glass of dew for wineL
