Do They Know? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGHIHIJKJK LGMG

Do they know At the turn to the straightA
Where the favourites failB
And every last atom of weightA
Is telling its taleB
As some grim old stayer hard pressedC
Runs true to his breedD
And with head in front of the restC
Fights on in the leadE
When the jockeys are out with the whipsF
With a furlong to goG
And the backers grow white in the lipsF
Do you think they don't knowG
Do they know As they come back to weighH
In a whirlwind of cheersI
Though the spurs have left marks of the frayH
Though the sweat on the earsI
Gathers cold and they sob with distressJ
As they roll up the trackK
They know just as well their successJ
As the man on their backK
As they walk through a dense human laneL
That sways to and froG
And cheers them again and againM
Do you think they don't knowG
