Colonial Experience Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCCD EEFF GGHH IIJJ KKJJ LLMM NNJJ BBOO

When first I came to Sydney CoveA
And up and down the streets did roveA
I thought such sights I ne'er did seeB
Since first I learnt my A B CB
-
Oh it's broiling in the morningC
It's toiling in the morningC
It's broiling in the morningC
It's toiling all day longD
-
Into the park I took a strollE
I felt just like a buttered rollE
A pretty name The Sunny SouthF
A better one The Land of DrouthF
-
Next day into the bush I wentG
On wild adventure I was bentG
Dame Nature's wonders I'd exploreH
All thought of danger would ignoreH
-
The mosquitoes and bull dog antsI
Assailed me even through my pantsI
It nearly took my breath awayJ
To hear the jackass laugh so gayJ
-
This lovely country I've been toldK
Abounds in silver and in goldK
You may pick it up all dayJ
Just as leaves in autumn layJ
-
Marines will chance this yarn believeL
But bluejackets you can't deceiveL
Such pretty stories will not fitM
Nor can I their truth admitM
-
Some say there's lots of work to doN
Well yes but then 'twixt me and youN
A man may toil and broil all dayJ
The big fat man gets all the payJ
-
Mayhap such good things there may beB
But you may have them all for meB
Instead of roaming foreign partsO
I wish I'd studied the Fine ArtsO
