Cassidy's Epitaph Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCACADEDEAAAA FGFGAAAA AHAHIAJA

Here lies a bloke who's just gone WestA
A Number One AustralianB
He took his gun and did his bestA
To mitigate the alienB
So long as he could get to workC
He needed no sagacityA
A German Austrian or TurkC
Were all the same to CassidyA
Wherever he could raise the stuffD
A liquor deleteriousE
The question when he'd have enoughD
Was apt to be mysteriousE
'Twould worry prudent folks a lotA
Through mental incapacityA
If he could keep it down or notA
Was all the same to CassidyA
-
And when the boys would start a danceF
In honour of TerpsichoreG
'Twas just an even money chanceF
You'd find him rather shickeryG
But once he struck his proper strideA
And heard the band's vivacityA
The jazz the tango or the slideA
Was all the same to CassidyA
-
And now he's gone to face the LightA
With all it may reveal to himH
A life without a drink or fightA
Perhaps may not appeal to himH
But when St Peter calls the rollI
Of men of proved tenacityA
You'll find the front rank right hand manJ
Will answer Here CassidyA
