Shadows of the twilight fallingA
On the mountain's browB
To each other birds are callingA
In the leafy boughB
Where the daisies are a springingA
And the cattle bells are ringingA
Comes my Mary gaily singingA
Bringing home the cowsC
-
By a bush the pathway skirtedD
Room for two allowsC
All the cornfields are desertedD
Idle are the ploughsC
Striving for wealth's spoil and bootyE
Farmer boys have finished dutyE
When I meet my little beautyE
Bringing home the cowsC
-
Tender words and kind addressesF
Most polite of bowsC
Rosy cheeks and wavy tressesF
Do my passions rouseG
-
Dress so natty and so cleanlyE
Air so modest and so queenlyE
Oh so haughty yet serenelyE
Bringing home the cowsC
-
Arm in arm together walkingA
While the cattle browseC
Earnestly together talkingA
Plighting lovers' vowsC
Where the daisies are a springingA
Wedding bells will soon be ringingA
Then we'll watch our servant bringingA
Mine and Mary's cowsC
