No soft skinned Durham steers are they	A
No Devons plump and red	B
But brindled black and iron grey	A
That mark the mountain bred	B
For mountain bred and mountain broke	C
With sullen eyes agleam	D
No stranger's hand could put a yoke	C
On old Black Harry's team	D

The creeks are running white	F
And Tiger Spot and Snailey horn	E
Must bend their bows by night	F
And axles wheels and flooring boards	G
Are swept with flying spray	A
As shoulder deep through mountain fords	G
The leaders feel their way	A

He needs no sign of cross or kirn	H
To guide him as he goes	I
For every twist and every turn	H
That old black leader knows	I
Up mountains steep they heave and strain	J
Where never wheel has rolled	K
And what the toiling leaders gain	J
The body bullocks hold	K

On sidlings steep and blind	M
He rigs the good old fashioned brake	L
A tree tied on behind	M
Up mountains straining to the full	N
Each poler plays his part	O
The sullen stubborn bullock pull	N
That breaks a horse's heart	O

His wheels have blazed the way	A
The forest giants burnt and black	P
Are ear marked by his dray	A
Through belts of scrub where messmates grow	Q
His juggernaut has rolled	K
For stumps and saplings have to go	Q
When Harry's team takes hold	K

The tourist car goes through	S
They halt a moment to admire	R
The far flung mountain view	S
The tourist folk would be amazed	T
If they could get to know	Q
They take the track Black Harry blazed	T
