A Mountain Station Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FEFEGEGE HEHEEEEE EGEGAIAI JBJBKGK LMLMEGE GI bought a run a while ago | A |
On country rough and ridgy | B |
Where wallaroos and wombats grow | A |
The Upper Murrumbidgee | B |
The grass is rather scant it's true | C |
But this a fair exchange is | D |
The sheep can see a lovely view | C |
By climbing up the ranges | E |
- | |
And She oak Flat's the station's name | F |
I'm not surprised at that sirs | E |
The oaks were there before I came | F |
And I supplied the flat sirs | E |
A man would wonder how it's done | G |
The stock so soon decreases | E |
They sometimes tumble off the run | G |
And break themselves to pieces | E |
- | |
I've tried to make expenses meet | H |
But wasted all my labours | E |
The sheep the dingoes didn't eat | H |
Were stolen by the neighbours | E |
They stole my pears my native pears | E |
Those thrice convicted felons | E |
And ravished from me unawares | E |
My crop of paddy melons | E |
- | |
And sometimes under sunny skies | E |
Without an explanation | G |
The Murrumbidgee used to rise | E |
And overflow the station | G |
But this was caused as now I know | A |
When summer sunshine glowing | I |
Had melted all Kiandra's snow | A |
And set the river going | I |
- | |
And in the news perhaps you read | J |
Stock passings Puckawidgee | B |
Fat cattle Seven hundred head | J |
Swept down the Murrumbidgee | B |
Their destination's quite obscure | K |
But somehow there's a notion | G |
Unless the river falls they're sure | K |
To reach the Southern Ocean ' | - |
- | |
So after that I'll give it best | L |
No more with Fate I'll battle | M |
I'll let the river take the rest | L |
For those were all my cattle | M |
And with one comprehensive curse | E |
I close my brief narration | G |
And advertise it in my verse | E |
For Sale A Mountain Station ' | - |
