-
Into her presence he gaily prancedB
A very fat spark and a bit advancedB
With a Samson tread on the earth he trodB
He was stayed and gaitered and fifty oddB
-
And she was a tulip just unfurledB
The sweetest thing in the motor worldB
-
Her body was one of which poets dreamedB
Eighteen twenty or so she seemedB
-
Her air was haughty her spirit proudB
But properly governed as all allowedB
-
Pity he said my sad conditionC
My heart's in a state of advanced ignitionC
-
Ask me to do some desperate deedB
And I'll do it at once at my topmost speedB
-
Sir said the maiden pray be seatedB
I fear from your bearing you're somewhat heatedB
-
And I trust that a timely lubricationC
Of throttle will cool your circulationC
-
As a well made mixture she indicatedB
With joy and gladness he radiatedB
-
Oh come said he in this soft spring weatherD
Let us run over the world togetherD
-
But she slipped his clutch with a gesture mockingE
Your heart she said I can hear it knockingE
-
You haven't the gear at my pace to lastB
Both men and motors I like them fastB
-
And I think that in me you have missed your missionC
You are only an old style tube ignitionC
-
With a sidelong motion he left the placeF
For weal or woe he was off his baseF
-
He drove his car to the cliffs of DoverD
Made one short circuit and ran her overD
-
And the stormy Petrol her rest is takingE
Where only the wild waves do the brakingE
