The Old Survey Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEE FGHGIEE JKLK MEE NOCOPEE

Our money's all spent to the deuce went itA
The landlord he looks glumB
On the tap room wall in a very bad scrawlC
He has chalked to us a sumB
But a glass we'll take ere the grey dawn breakD
And then saddle up and awayE
Theodolite tum theodolite ti theodolite too ral ayE
-
With a measured beat fall our horses' feetF
Galloping side by sideG
When the money's done and we've had our funH
We all are bound to rideG
O'er the far off plain we'll drag the chainI
And mark the settler's wayE
Theodolite tum theodolite ti theodolite too ral ayE
-
We'll range from the creeks to the mountain peaksJ
And traverse far belowK
Where foot never trod we'll mark with a rodL
The limits of endless snowK
-
Each lofty crag we'll plant with a flagM
To flash in the sun's bright rayE
Theodolite tum theodolite ti theodolite too ral ayE
-
Till with cash hard earned once more returnedN
At The Beaver bars we'll shoutO
And the very bad scrawl that's against the wallC
Ourselves shall see wiped outO
Such were the ways in the good old daysP
The days of the old surveyE
Theodolite tum theodolite ti theodolite too ral ayE
