By the winding Wollondilly where the weeping willows weepA
And the shepherd with his billy half awake and half asleedB
Folds his fleecy flocks that linger homewards in the setting sunC
Lived my hero Jim the Ringer cocky on Mylora RunC
-
Jimmy loved the super's daughter Miss Amelia Jane McGrathD
Long and earnestly he sought her but he feared her stern papaE
And Amelia loved him truly but the course of love if trueF
Never yet ran smooth or duly as I think it ought to doF
-
Pondering o'er his predilection Jimmy watched McGrath the bossG
Riding past his lone selection looking for a station 'ossG
That was running in the ranges with a mob of outlaws wildB
Mac the time of day exchanges off goes Jim to see his childB
-
Says The old man's after Stager which he'll find is no light jobH
And tomorrow I will wager he will try and yard the mobH
Will you come with me tomorrow I will let the parson knowI
And for ever joy or sorrow he will join us here belowI
-
I will bring the nags so speedy Crazy Jane and TambourineJ
One more kiss don't think I'm greedy good bye lass before I'm seenJ
Just one more God bless you dearie Don't forget to meet me hereK
Life without you is but weary now once more good bye my dearL

The daylight shines on figures twainM
That ride across Mylora PlainM
Laughing and talking Jim and JaneM
Steady darling There's lots of timeN
Didn't we slip the old man primeN
I knew he'd tackle that Bowneck mobH
I reckon he'll find it too big a jobH
They've beaten us all I had a tryO
But the Warrigal devils seem to flyO
That Sambo's a real good but of stuffP
No doubt but not quite good enoughP
He'll have to gallop the livelong dayB
To cut and come to race and stayB
I hope he yards 'em 'twill do him goodB
To see us going I don't think wouldB
A turn in the road and fair and squareQ
They meet the old man standing thereQ
What's up Why running away of courseG
Says Jim emboldened The old man turnedB
His eye with wild excitement burnedB
I've raced all day through the scorching heatB
After old Bowneck and now I'm beatB
But over that range I think you'll findB
The Bowneck mob all run stone blindB
Will you go and leave the mob behindB
Which will you do Take the girl awayB
Or ride like a white man should todayB
And yard old Bowneck Go or stayB
Says Jim I can't throw this awayB
We can bolt some other day of courseG
Amelia Jane get off that horseG
Up you get Old Man Whoop hallooO
Here goes to put old Bowneck throughF
Two distant specks om the mountain sideB
Two stockwhips echoing far and wideB
Amelia Jane sat down and criedB
-
-
-
Sakes Amelia what's up nowR
Leading old Sambo too I vowR
And him deadbeat Where have you beenS
'Bolted with Jim ' What do you meanJ
'Met the old man with Sambo lickedB
From running old Bowneck ' Well I'm kickedB
'Ran 'em till Sambo nearly dropped '-
What did Jim do when you were stoppedB
Did you bolt from father across the plainM
'Jim made you get off Crazy JaneM
And father got on and away againT
The two of 'em went to the ranges grim '-
Good boy Jimmy Oh well done JimU
They're sure to get them now of courseG
That Tambourine is a spanking horseG
And Crazy Jane is good as goldB
And Jim they say rides pretty boldB
Not like your father but very fairQ
Jim will have to follow the mareQ
It never was yet in father's hideB
To best my Jim on the mountain sideB
Jim can rally and Jim can rideB
But here again Amelia criedB
-
-
-
The sound of whip comes faint and farV
A rattle of hoofs and here they areV
In all their tameless prideB
The fleet wild horses snort and fearL
And wheel and break as the yard draws nearL
Now Jim the Ringer rideB
Wheel 'em wheel 'em Whoa back there whoaI
And the foam flakes fly like the driven snowI
As under the whip the horses goI
Adown the mountain sideB
And Jim hands down and teeth firm setB
On a horse that never has failed him yetB
Is after them down the rangeW
Well ridden well ridden they wheel whoa backX
And long and loud the stockwhips crackX
Their flying course they changeW
Steadily does it let Sambo goI
Open those sliprails down belowI
Smart or you'll be too lateB
-
-
-
They'll follow old Sambo up look outB
Whee that black horse give Sam a cloutB
They're in Make fast the gateB
-
-
-
The mob is safely in the yardB
The old man mounts delighted guardB
No thought has he but for his prizeG
-
-
-
Jim catches poor Amelia's eyesG
Will you come after all The job is doneC
And Crazy Jane is fit to runC
For a prince's life now don't say noI
Slip on while the old man's down belowI
At the inner yard and away we'll goI
Will you come my girl I will you betB
We'll manage this here elopement yetB
-
-
-
By the winding Wollondilly stands the hut of Ringer JimU
And his loving little Meely makes a perfect god of himU
He has stalwart sons and daughters and I think before he's doneC
There'll be numerous Six forty's taken on Mylora RunC
