MacFierce'un came to WhiskeyhurstA
When summer days were hotA
And bided there wi' Jock MacThirstA
A brawny brother ScotA
Good faith They made the whisky flyB
Like Highland chieftains trueC
And when they'd drunk the beaker dryB
They sang We are nae fouD
There's nae folk like oor ain folkE
Sae gallant and sae trueC
They sang the only Scottish jokeE
Which is We are nae fouD
Said bold MacThirst Let Saxons jawF
Aboot their great concernsG
But Bonnie Scotland beats them a'H
The Land o' Cakes and BurnsG
The land of pairtridge deer and grouseI
Fill up your glass I begJ
There's muckle whiskey i' the houseI
Forbye what's in the kegJ
And here a hearty laugh he laughedA
Just come wi' me I begJ
MacFierce'un saw with pleasure daftA
A fifty gallon kegJ
-
Losh man that's graund MacFierce'un criedA
Saw ever man the likeK
Moo wi' the daylicht I maun rideA
To meet a Southron tykeK
But I'll be back ere summer's goneL
So bide for me I begJ
We'll mak' a graund assault uponM
Yon deevil of a kegJ

MacFierce'un rode to WhiskeyhurstA
When summer days were goneL
And there he met with Jock MacThirstA
Was greetin' all aloneN
MacThirst what gars ye look sae blankO
Hae all your wuts gane daftA
Has that accursed Southron bankO
Called up your overdraftA
Is all your grass burnt up wi' drouthP
Is wool and hides gane flatA
MacThirst replied Guid friend in truthP
'Tis muckle waur than thatA
-
Has sair misfortune cursed your lifeD
That you should weep sae freeQ
Is harm upon your bonnie wifeD
The children at your kneeQ
Is scaith upon your house and hameR
MacThirst upraised his headA
My bairns hae done the deed of shameR
'Twere better they were deadA
To think my bonnie infant sonS
Should do the deed o' guiltA
He let the whiskey spigot runS
And a' the whiskey's spiltA
-
-
-
Upon them both these words did bringT
A solemn silence deepU
Good faith it is a fearsome thingT
To see two strong men weepU
