Bristling Billy the porcupineA
A person that nobody likedB
Sinking a shaft on an ant bed mineA
Came on a burrowing lizard's lineA
And the lizard was badly spikedB
You're a blundering fool said the snake's half brotherC
And that was how one thing led to anotherC

Weary Willie the wombat kingD
Said he was champion excavatorC
But the Bristler said You ain't no such thingD
You couldn't dig up a new pertaterC
So a match was made on their mining skillE
Bristling Billy and Weary WillE

Both of the creatures were stout as steelF
With knife like claws that could dig for everC
The wombat dug with the greater zealF
But he hadn't the style or the action cleverC
Of Bristling Billy who looked a winnerC
Till he struck some ants and he stopped for dinnerC

Down where the ants had hid their youngG
Underground in a secret tunnelH
Scooping them up with his sticky tongueG
Into his mouth that was like a funnelH
Why should I dig for your wagers scantyI
Said he when I'm feeling so full and ant y-

A kangaroo who has lost his cashJ
Was wild at this most absurd come uppanceK
Now listen you poor ant eating trashJ
I'd give you a kick in the ribs for twopenceK
Well when I've finished with this here dietL
Said Bristling Billy you come and try itM

Wanders away on his lonely lineA
Rattles his fearful spikesK
Says he There's none of you long haired squibsK
Is game to give me a kick in the ribsK
