The Angel's Kiss Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC DD AA EE FF GH DD II JJJ

An angel stood beside the bedA
Where lay the living and the deadA
-
He gave the mother her who diedB
A kiss that Christ the CrucifiedB
-
Had sent to greet the weary soulC
When worn and faint it reached its goalC
-
He gave the infant kisses twainD
One on the breast one on the brainD
-
Go forth into the world he saidA
With blessings on your heart and headA
-
For God who ruleth righteouslyE
Hath ordered that to such as beE
-
From birth deprived of mother's loveF
I bring His blessing from aboveF
-
But if the mother's life he spareG
Then she is made God's messengerH
-
To kiss and pray that heart and brainD
May go through life without a stainD
-
The infant moved towards the lightI
The angel spread his wings in flightI
-
But each man carries to his graveJ
The kisses that in hopes to saveJ
The angel or his mother gaveJ
