That V.c. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CACD EFEF GAHA IIII JAJA KKKK CKCK LFLF

'Twas in the days of front attackA
This glorious truth we'd yet to learn itB
That every front has got a backA
And French was just the man to turn itB
-
A wounded soldier on the groundC
Was lying hid behind a hummockA
He proved the good old proverb soundC
An army travels on its stomachD
-
He lay as flat as any fishE
His nose had worn a little furrowF
He only had one frantic wishE
That like an ant bear he could burrowF
-
The bullets whistled into spaceG
The pom pom gun kept up its brayingA
The fout point seven supplied the bassH
You'd think the devil's band was playingA
-
A valiant comrade crawling nearI
Observed his most supine behaviourI
And crept towards him Hey what cheerI
Buck up said he I've come to save yerI
-
You get up on my shoulders mateJ
And if we live beyond the firingA
I'll get the V C sure as fateJ
Because our blokes is all retiringA
-
It's fifty pound a year says heK
I'll stand you lots of beer and whiskyK
No says the wounded man not meK
I'll not be saved it's far too riskyK
-
I'm fairly safe behind this moundC
I've worn a hole that seems to fit meK
But if you lift me off the groundC
It's fifty pounds to one they'll hit meK
-
So back towards the firing lineL
Our friend crept slowly to the rear ohF
Remarking What a selfish swineL
He might have let me be a heroF
