Hard Luck Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IDID JKJK LMLM

I left the course and by my sideA
There walked a ruined toutB
A hungry creature evil eyedA
Who poured this story outB
-
You see he said there came a swellC
To Kensington todayD
And if I picked the winners wellC
A crown at least he's payD
-
I picked three winners straight I didE
I filled his purse with pelfF
And then he gave me half a quidE
To back one for myselfF
-
A half a quid to me he castG
I wanted it indeedH
So help me Bob for two days pastG
I haven't had a feedH
-
But still I thought my luck was inI
I couldn't go astrayD
I put it all on Little MinI
And lost it straightawayD
-
I haven't got a bite or bedJ
I'm absolutely stuckK
So keep this lesson in your headJ
Don't over trust your luckK
-
The folks went homeward near and farL
The tout oh where is heM
Ask where the empty boilers areL
Beside the Circular QuayM
