Brumby's Run Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LGMG NONO PQPQ RSRS BHBI

It lies beyond the Western PinesA
Beneath the sinking sunB
And not a survey mark definesA
The bounds of Brumby's RunB
-
On odds and ends of mountain landC
On tracks of range and rockD
Where no one else can make a standC
Old Brumby rears his stockD
-
A wild unhandled lot they areE
Of every shape and breedF
They venture out 'neath moon and starE
Along the flats to feedF
-
But when the dawn makes pink the skyG
And steals along the plainH
The Brumby horses turn and flyG
Back to the hills againI
-
The traveler by the mountain trackJ
May hear the hoof beats passK
And catch a glimpse of brown and blackJ
Dim shadows on the grassK
-
The eager stock horse pricks his earsL
And lifts his head on highG
In wild excitement when he hearsM
The Brumby mob go byG
-
Old Brumby asks no price or feeN
O'er all his wide domainsO
The man who yards his stock is freeN
To keep them for his painsO
-
So off to scour the mountain sideP
With eager eyes aglowQ
To strongholds where the wild mobs hideP
The gully rakers goQ
-
A rush of horses through the treesR
A red shirt making playS
A sound of stockwhips on the breezeR
They vanish far awayS
-
-
-
Ah me before our day is doneB
We long with bitter painH
To ride once more on Brumby's RunB
And yard his mob againI
