Behind The Scenes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GHGHIJIJ DFDF

The actor struts his little hourA
Between the limelight and the bandB
The public feel the actor's powerA
Yet nothing do they understandB
Of all the touches here and thereC
That make or mar the actor's partD
They never see beneath the glareC
The artist striving after artD
-
To them it seems a labour slightE
Where nought of study intervenesF
You see it in another lightE
When once you've been behind the scenesF
-
For though the actor at his bestG
Is like a poet born not madeH
He still must study with a zestG
And practice hard to learn his tradeH
So whether on the actor's formI
The stately robes of Hamlet sitJ
Or as Macbeth he rave and stormI
Or plays burlesque to please the pitJ
-
'Tis each and all a work of artD
That constant care and practice meansF
The actor who creates a partD
Has done his work behind the scenesF
