Into her presence he gaily prancedA
A very fat spark and a bit advancedA
-
With a Samson tread on the earth he trodA
He was stayed and gaitered and fifty oddA
-
And she was a tulip just unfurledA
The sweetest thing in the motor worldA
-
Her body was one of which poets dreamedA
Eighteen twenty or so she seemedA
-
Her air was haughty her spirit proudA
But properly governed as all allowedA
-
Pity he said my sad conditionB
My heart's in a state of advanced ignitionB
-
Ask me to do some desperate deedA
And I'll do it at once at my topmost speedA
-
Sir said the maiden pray be seatedA
I fear from your bearing you're somewhat heatedA
-
And I trust that a timely lubricationB
Of throttle will cool your circulationB
-
As a well made mixture she indicatedA
With joy and gladness he radiatedA
-
Oh come said he in this soft spring weatherC
Let us run over the world togetherC
-
But she slipped his clutch with a gesture mockingD
Your heart she said I can hear it knockingD
-
You haven't the gear at my pace to lastA
Both men and motors I like them fastA
-
And I think that in me you have missed your missionB
You are only an old style tube ignitionB
-
With a sidelong motion he left the placeE
For weal or woe he was off his baseE
-
He drove his car to the cliffs of DoverC
Made one short circuit and ran her overC
-
And the stormy Petrol her rest is takingD
Where only the wild waves do the brakeingD
