The Problem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BC CDEFGHIJCCCHKLMNOJMP CQMH

The ProblemA
-
The name of the bow is life but its work is deathB
The FragmentsC
-
How in HeraclitusC
ideas of things quality and eventD
coalesce sun warmth dawnE
the perceiver perceived tooF
not yet parsed not yetG
and then the great ForgettingH
breath and breather love and belovedI
world and God in the worldJ
But then it comes upon us that brightnessC
that bright tension in animals for instanceC
that focus that compassC
of the mammalian mind findingH
its own true NorthK
saintly in its dark eyedL
arrow eared devotionM
A kind of calling a via negativaN
a surrender still and silent to the heart s desireO
So in the cathedral of the worldJ
we hold communionM
the bread of languageP
placed delicately upon our tonguesC
as we breathe the bitter airQ
drinking the wine of reasonM
and pressing to our breasts the old dream of BeingH
