| On it must something toil | A |
| Either a positive thought is planted | B |
| Or negative thoughts sprouted | B |

| Whether one or the other grows | C |
| Is always of ones controls | D |
| For by diligence must one plant seeds | E |
| Or by negligence tend weeds | E |

| And as one ship sails east | F |
| Thus moved by the great wind | G |
| And yet the other flows west | H |
| Propelled thither by the same wind | G |

| So too our thoughts are | I |
| Tarmac to climb us high | J |
| High up bove yonder star | I |
| Or down low to a dim dense sigh | J |
| And all lust hath root in the eye | J |
