i seek solace in winter
before summer knocks
on my doors with her
arthritic knuckles.

i long for summer solstice
when the sol stands stitium
and the June twenties birth
long days and short nights.

i want to set bonfires
on midsummer nights,
to boost the sun's energy
for the rest of the season
and guarantee harvest for the fall.

i long to be a promoted viking,
long back then when sibling still
referred to anyone related to me

when i would summon
my brave brothers and sisters
to meet and discuss legal matters
and resolve disputes.

but i love that i can still sip
wine glasses of solace
in winter's solstices.

i can perform a ceremonial
sun dance around a tree while
proudly wearing symbolic hues,

and remember the sun is a mixture
of all colors mixed together
that appear to my eyes as white.

i love to see flowers
wearing themselves,
women wearing flowers
in their hair and homes
are decorated with garlands.

my dream is one day,
i stand at the center of the earth
and watch the beauty of diversity,
when two hemispheres come
closest to be the same.
