The Temptation Of St. Anthony Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBCCBDEFDEG

After a design by F licien RopsA
-
The Cross the Cross is tainted O most JustB
Be merciful and save me from this snareC
The Tempter lures me as I bend in prayerC
Before the sacred symbol of our trustB
Yea that most Holy of Holies feeds my lustB
The body of thy Christ for unawareC
Even as I kneel and pray lo She is thereC
The temptress she the wanton and she hath thrustB
The bruis d body off and all her ownD
Shameless she stretches on the cross arms wideE
Limbs pendent in libidinous mockeryF
She draws mine eyes to her Ah sin unknownD
She smiles she triumphs but the CrucifiedE
Falls off into the darkness with a cryG
