The Obscure Night Of The Soul Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB ACACB DEDEE FEGEE HEHEE EGEGI JEJEE EKEKL

Upon an obscure nightA
Fevered with love in love's anxietyB
O hapless happy plightA
I went none seeing meB
Forth from my house where all things quiet beB
-
By night secure from sightA
And by the secret stair disguisedlyC
O hapless happy plightA
By night and privilyC
Forth from my house where all things quiet beB
-
Blest night of wanderingD
In secret where by none might I be spiedE
Nor I see anythingD
Without a light or guideE
Save that which in my heart burnt in my sideE
-
That light did lead me onF
More surely than the shining of noontideE
Where well I knew that oneG
Did for my coming bideE
Where he abode might none but he abideE
-
O night that didst lead thusH
O night more lovely than the dawn of lightE
O night that broughtest usH
Lover to lover's sightE
Lover with loved in marriage of delightE
-
Upon my flowery breastE
Wholly for him and save himself for noneG
There did I give sweet restE
To my beloved oneG
The fanning of the cedars breathed thereonI
-
When the first moving airJ
Blew from the tower and waved his locks asideE
His hand with gentle careJ
Did wound me in the sideE
And in my body all my senses diedE
-
All things I then forgotE
My cheek on him who for my coming cameK
All ceased and I was notE
Leaving my cares and shameK
Among the lilies and forgetting themL
