Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGHIIJJKKLL MMWhen I am old and think of the old days | A |
And warm my hands before a little blaze | A |
Having forgotten love hope fear desire | B |
I shall see smiling out of the pale fire | B |
One face mysterious and exquisite | C |
And I shall gaze and ponder over it | D |
Wondering was it Leonardo wrought | E |
That stealthy ardency where passionate thought | E |
Burns inward a revealing flame and glows | F |
To the last ecstasy which is repose | F |
Was it Bronzino whose Borghese eyes | G |
And musing thus among my memories | H |
O unforgotten you will come to seem | I |
As pictures do remembered some old dream | I |
And I shall think of you as something strange | J |
And beautiful and full of helpless change | J |
Which I beheld and carried in my heart | K |
But you I loved will have become a part | K |
Of the eternal mystery and love | L |
Like a dim pain and I shall bend above | L |
My little fire and shiver being cold | M |
When you are no more young and I am old | M |
